Default Concept Class: Wicca

I'm reposting this Thread under it's new name.

Were a chapter directed towards an Eastern European theme (please?) I beleive that a Wicca would fit the bill nicely.

With the mythology of the area based heavily on vampires and werewolves, rather than having these two as classes, it would be neat to introduce them as optional races based heavily on pve, but that's discussion for elsewhere.

The Wicca would deal in dark energies, drive their enemies to madness with both physical and illusionary damage. Adept at applying a widespread number of conditions on an enemy quickly and consistently, misdirecting damage is a large part of their defensive strategy.

They would have two very different weapons, something not seen since the warrior.
1. Thurible
2. Effegy

The Thurible is basically a big metal ball on a chain in which incense is burned. It would be two handed, deal physical damage by being swung at a range half of that of the shortbow or spear, and be integral to spells of the corresponding attribute.

The effegy would deal damage at a range similar to that of a longbow. Again, it would be two-handed, and the character would frantically stab the ffegy to deal non-physical damage.

The attributes would be:
1. Thurible Mastery
2. Effegy Mastery
3. Glamor (Primary)
4. Symbolism

Skills in Thurible mastery would follow two paths. First, imbuing the item itself with offensive buff and dealing bonus damage. Second, clouds of smoke from the incense inside the Thurible would either apply conditions to enemies, or defend yourself.

Effegy Mastery would be similar to the previous, only conditions would be applied directly to the effegy, and no attacks or attack bonusus would deal physical damage.

Glamor, as the primary attribute, would inheritley increace your evasion capabilities. "For each point of glamor, you gain a 1% chance of dodging attacks with a .5% chance of redirecting damage to the attacker." Glamor would deal with spells that confuse the enemy and redirect damage.
For instance a skill concept I had was "for (?)seconds, all damage dealt to target ally is redirected to nearest other enemy."

Lastly, Symbolism would deal with applying conditions to enemies and dealing aoe damage. The animations would include the character dropping to his/her knees and furiously scribbling inscriptions into the ground or the air in front of him/her.

So what do you think?

I like your ideahs on the weapons, but I don't like the class so much. Maybe change it to a Druid, and include the werewolf as a shapeshifing ability?

Also, I think the effigy would be cool as a voodoo doll on a voodoo master. It could be a class sort of like a combo between a ritualist an a mesmer.

As a Wiccan in real life, i don't really find any harm in creating a class such as this, since there is nothing there truly contradictory to the wiccan beliefs, but some people are more easily offended then others.

To put it simply, it would be like putting a class called "Christian", some people would find it offensive to their beliefs, while others would only take it at face value as a good/bad class for the game itself.

Its all a matter of opinion i guess.

How the hell is Wicca an accurate representation of Old Eastern Europe? Wicca is not even SIXTY years old. Why not base it around Celtic culture?

Jesus Christ, werewolf and vampire mythology are what this new concept is based off of? The user above me is a moron to the maximum extent. There is absolutely NOTHING even vaguely reminescent of werewolves/vampires in Wicca. It would be the equivalent of basing the next instalment on Christianity, as the above person also stated, but having their mythology focused on Sea Monsters. Seriously, where the hell did you get your idea from? Silver Ravenwolf?

I don't care how good the class would be, this idea fails on the premise that you don't know what you're talking about. Same to the self-proclaimed "wiccan" above.

All nitpicking with the name aside.... we already have a Ritualist which fits this role nicely I think, both from a functional and stylistic standpoint.

Vampires and werewolves are always fun though.

well as a Roman Catholic, I see no problem with a class called the Christain in any game, that worships a Crucifix, and throws holy water at people, calling them demons, and saying "The power of Christ compells you! etc.". these are only games, and I would not feel offended in any way by that, so whatever.

Anyhow, the class seems like a mix between the Elementalist, and the Ritualist, and wouldn't really be needed for guildwars.

Between Necromancer and Ritualist, another dark magic caster is really getting crowded, and as Domino says, a Vampire or Werewolf is far more attractive and original than a Wicca.

Try this as an example.

A vampire is far more appealing, a much better archtype, and more geared toward physical combat and radical abilities than a Wicca, there really isn't a comparison in popularity.

Easy big fella.

The druid class is a classic in games, and has often included such shapeshifting abilities. Hence why I suggested calling it that instead of Wicca. I was speaking from a purely gaming perspective, and trying to get away from the tie to any religion.

Thumbs down

Being that this is a FANTASY world I don't see Anet using Wicca or Christianity as any role or archetype in the game. This is a fantasy world and should not contain references geared so specifically to any one person, group, organization, enterprise or religious sect. As a Wiccan raised by parents of 2 Christian faiths I would take great offense to either title.
